First. . .we hang plastic to keep dust and debris in the work space as much as possible. This will help to contain the mess. We also cover floor surfaces and cabinets tightly to protect them from all the dust.
Second. . .we wet down the ceiling. This step loosens the bond between the ceiling and the texture and enables us to more easily scrape the ceiling clean.
Third. . .the ceiling (once all texture is removed) is skim coated to float out seams and other problem areas. This sometimes needs to be done twice, depending on the condition of the ceiling.
Fourth. . .the ceiling is then sanded smooth, ready to paint, or a hand-troweled texture can be applied.
