***My Background***
D. Chandrika Prem has been playing cello for over 25 years. She started playing cello at age nine and instantly fell in love with the instrument. Music has been a core part of her life ever since. She earned a Bachelors of Music in Cello Performance in May of 2016 from Metropolitan State University of Denver. She continues to study under Dr. Charles Lee, who has been principal cellist of the Boulder Philharmonic orchestra since 1998. She teaches private cello, violin, viola, piano, early music education, and music theory; with a successful studio of over 30 students; is the co-owner/business manager and cellist for the Mile High String quartet; plays with the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra, and contracts freelance projects in all genres of music and theater.
As much as playing the cello, she is called to share her love and knowledge of music with her students. Prem believes that music, especially the process of playing music, has the ability to change people's lives. She believes that every person can benefit from learning to play an instrument; and that doing so will improve the quality of their everyday life. Prem's love of teaching is reflected in her enthusiasm and dedication toward her students.
Prem's past playing experience consists of solo performances, group and chamber performances, as well as several orchestras including the Front Rang Youth Symphony, Symphony in the Vail Valley, Centennial Philharmonic, and was principle cellist for the MSU Denver Symphony Orchestra. Her contract work includes private events and theater productions throughout the Denver Metro Area. She has also played cello and sang with many local bands in genres including blues, bluegrass, singer songwriter, experimental electronic, and indie rock.
