Building department permits are required for all new or used furnaces and/or air conditioner installations in every city or county in the metroplex area!
The furnace or A/C contractor is required to be licensed and pull the permit at your local building department and schedule an inspection with them.

The building department will then come out and inspect the job to make sure it is safe and done up to the latest building codes.
If you have a furnace replaced by an unlicensed contractor you are taking a huge risk. If the furnaces are not installed properly it could cause a fire, explosion, or leak carbon monoxide, all of which is very dangerous.
If they are not licensed then they are also probably not insured either, plus you may have problems selling your house because most savvy home inspectors, realtors, or potential buyers will check the permit history of the home with the city or county before they buy it.

Unfortunately, many of the heating contractors listed here on CL are not licensed because they can't meet the strict requirements necessary to get a HVAC license including master testing, proof of work history, background checks and proof of insurance. Don't let an unlicensed HACK put your family at risk!!!
Please call your local building department to verify the licensing information of any contractor and make sure they are pulling permits before you have them install a new or used furnace or air conditioning system.
