I live in a family owned tenement house and renovate the apartments between tenants.
Almost every time, I had to patch large and small wall holes. Followed by painting over the patches.
I have 7 years experience doing drywall projects that include painting.
The life cycle of the project includes the following:
To start, I'll get matching paint using a paint chip from the damaged area. In most cases, only a quart of paint is needed.
I'll make sure there are no wires behind the cut location using a specialized tool for wire detection.
If wires are present, the cut will just be a little wider.
I'll cut a squared piece around the hole.
I'll mount a new piece of sheet rock of the right size.
I'll tape and mudd.
I'll sand after the compound has dried.
I'll paint over the repaired area with the matching paint.
Done.
