I teach guitar, bass. piano, banjo, ukulele and mandolin to ages 5 and up at the Music Academy on Butternut Lane in Clayton near the Hwy 42/Amelia Church Rd intersection on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Students of guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele- ages 5 to 10 began learning some simple chords- and then learn to strum these chords as they began singing and learning how to accompany themselves on songs such as Merrily We Roll Along and London Bridge. Also, young students learn to read music notation at a pace that is comfortable for the student.

For the older students, chords as they fit into a musical key is taught along with how to strum beginning rhythm patterns. For learning melodies or learning rock riffs students can learn to read music, or can play by tablature. Then, students begin to learn songs appropriate for their level of playing.Students can learn in the music style of their choice- rock, blues, country or folk which can be old or new songs.

Learning music theory (as it relates to the student's progress); developing a sense of rhythm, phrasing and melody; and learning techniques of improvising with chords and scales are also part of lessons. I offer lessons in individual and group lessons.


I am a graduate of Music Education with 27 years teaching experience. I have students at the very beginning of instrument studies and others who are playing advanced techniques in folk, country, rock, blues, and classical music. Students that can not read music notation begin simple reading exercises of note recognition, time signatures, note values, eye hand coordination and more.

Whether you are a beginning student of music, or looking to advance your musicianship- the advantages of my teaching is that I will progressively teach students the elements and fundamentals of their chosen instrument that I have learned over many years. So, you (the student) will receive a carefully designed lesson by lesson learning of what musical knowledge I have accumulated, but taught at a pace comfortable to each student depending on their rate of progress.

As many music schools and acadamies require a contract, I do not. I do ask for a months notice prior to ending of lessons. My Lesson Rates are $24 for 30 min., $35 for 45 min, and $44 for 60 min. Please call
