If your vehicle is smoking and there seems to be loss of oil, it's possible your Valve Stem Seals need to be replaced. As the seals become hard over time, they no longer provide the proper seal between the seal and the stem. Oil then passes through the seal to the combustion chamber and exhaust, where it is then "burned off". This is what causes your vehicle to smoke. Unlike the new style of seals, the old style seals do not seal on the inside to the guide. Oil pockets then form underneath the seals and contribute to the problem. Blockage of the secondary air ports and decreased catalytic converter life are two repercussions of not having the Valve Stem Seals replaced.
