About
Hey everyone!
My name is Jon Scholl, I'm an experienced pianist and teacher here in Baton Rouge. I have over 23 years of experience playing on the instrument and have been teaching for 10 years now. I specialize mainly in beginner lessons but also often teach students at higher skill levels, depending on what it is they want to learn.
I have a background gigging with different rock, pop, blues and variety bands over the past 15 years, so popular/contemporary music is a strong point. I also love classical and jazz though, and incorporate pieces, exercises and theory from those genres into lesson plans to whatever extent the student desires and/or I see fit to the development of the student.
I try my hardest to always create a lesson plan with the student that centers around not only what will best help strengthen their weaknesses/improve their abilities in general, but also around their interests and helping them learn material that makes them excited.
I find it of the utmost importance that the student is always passionate about the instrument and maintains a strong want to learn and play, so usually we are doing a fairly balanced combination of repertoire that they want to learn (no matter what the genre), along with songs/exercises from workbooks to improve their technique and overall knowledge of the instrument.
As stated in the title of this post the first lesson with me is always free. There's no pressure to continue after that first trial lesson, it is just that, a trial to see if the lesson plan I propose and my style of teaching suits you right. I teach either at my studio or can come to you, $25 per half hour lesson or $35 per hour lesson (after the first free lesson of course).
Thanks!
Jon Scholl
