READ BEFORE PROCEED: Before you attempt any of the resuscitation methods for your wet phone, make sure that you turn it off, remove the battery door, the battery itself, SIM card, and memory card if applicable.
Step 1: Deal with the problem
Water is liquid and so can get into even the furthest corners of your phone. Being trapped inside, it bridges electrical connections in your phone and as a result, causes severe damage and irreversible complications. Even if only some small amount of water got onto your phone, it’s still advised to dry it out at your best before proceeding to use it.
Step 2: Preparing wet phone for repairs
If you haven’t read the note before the steps, then we repeat that before you proceed to dry the water out of your phone, you need to turn it off, remove all possible elements, including but not limited to the battery cover, the battery itself, SIM card, and memory card. Without all removable elements, the water stuck inside your wet phone will get out faster and more efficient.
Step 3: Deal with the problem
Once you’ve got your phone wet, it’s essential to act as fast as possible! Remove all removable elements and try to dry the rest. If the water is literally leaking from your cell phone, then put it with the screen up to ensure that all excessive waters drip away. As an alternative, you can put some napkins or towel on the wet phone to dab it. Once you don’t see water coming from the phone, you have three main options: to heat it up, to freeze it, or to absorb and heat it together.
-
Heating
By heating the wet phone we mean letting it dry naturally in the sun. There is also a possibility to dry it up faster, but you need to be extremely careful in this case. You can put your phone into the oven, for instance, for 40 minutes at 125F. Such temperature in general terms is equal to the one you can get naturally from the sun, so it’s safe for the phone. Yet, don’t try to speed up the process by making the temperature higher because you will literally bake your wet phone! If you don’t have an oven nearby, then just put the phone on a dry towel in the sun and let it stay there for several hours. There is no strict timing here, so the more time you have, the better. Ensure that you touch the phone from time to time to avoid overheating because it may damage your LCD screen.
-
Freezing
The opposite of heating and evaporating the water from your phone is the idea of freezing it. This is a perfect way-out for people who don’t have sun heat every day. Again, don’t forget to remove everything you can from the phone, then dab away all water possible. And now you can get down to business.
To freeze the water inside the phone cell phone repair experts advise covering it with a towel or a paper towel to prevent frost damage. Then put the wet phone into the freezer for about 15-20 minutes and then take it out for a test. Should the phone still not work, put it back for another 5-10 minutes and try again.
This method will buy you some time to decide what to do next. The tip is, however, not to move the cell phone too much because frozen water crystals may move to different places and as a result cause more damage. -
Absorbing the water
There is also another way that many people rely on to rescue their wet phone. In this case you just need to have some components that will absorb all the water from the phone leaving no sign of it at all. There are two main ways that can be easy to reach should you get a wet phone problem.
Rice and silica work similarly. Both of these substances are great absorbers that can get excessive water from your phone. Yet, there is a great difference in using them. If you choose rice, then you need to put the wet phone into a bowl of rice in the sun and leave it open. In case of silica, you need to put the wet phone with the silica into a bag and zip it. Then put into sun of hot place.
The most important thing for you to remember about rescuing your wet phone from a complete damage is to act fast and resolutely. You now know what to do and how to do it right, so we wish you good luck and hope that you’ll never need any of these methods in your life!
